Your Personal Board of Trustees

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

This is such a powerful quote, but if you really think about it, how often is this put into practice? As I’m sure you know, our society is full of people pursuing their dreams and goals, whether that’s becoming an entrepreneur or becoming a great wife and mother, everyone is pursuing something, but how many of us are pursuing it alone?

Some of the most successful people in the world, did not accomplish their goals by themselves.

Think about Beyonce, or Queen B as she is affectionately known by her loyal fans. She’s an amazing performer, and arguably one of top artist of our time, but do you think she’s become that alone? From her marketing team to her choreographer, she has people around her who make it all come together flawlessly. I imagine she has a team of people who she trust to bounce ideas off of to help her accomplish whatever it is she is trying to execute. Do you?

It is so important to have the right people around you as you go through life. Building your tribe is vital to your success, it’s like having your very own Board of Trustees but for your life!

When looking for the people who belong at your table there are three things that are important to seek out.

They Are Honest

Its easy to find people who will ‘yes’ you to death, but with your personal Board of Trustees, you want people around you who will tell you when you’re wrong, who will tell you if you’re misrepresenting yourself or will down right tell you if something is whack. The biggest obstacle to having these kinds of people around can sometimes be you. Yes, I said YOU! Let’s be honest, we can sometimes get offended when people criticize something that we do, even if it is constructive. We have to learn not to be offended and allow these people to help us and that begins with giving them a safe place to feel they can be honest with you at all times.

They Are Loving & Supportive

In this journey of life you’ll sometimes feel down, you’ll want to throw in the towel and walk away from it all. Having a board full of people who truly love and support you is vital to continuing to persevere even in the midst of adversity. You want to know that you have people who will hold you accountable, still be there when you make mistakes and encourage you to keep going no matter what.

They Challenge You

I don’t know about you, but I never want to get too complacent in my life, and when you’re walking this thing out alone, that can happen. Being connected to people who challenge you a little, or a lot is irreplaceable. These are the people who will say “That’s so great that you did that, but I know you can do it bigger, I know there’s more inside of you.” These people will never let you get comfortable, they can see beyond your present and know what to pull out of you to catapult you into your future.

Of course there are many more things you may need for the people sitting at your table, but my hope is that you begin to put some thought into the people you have around you, and how vital they can be to your future success in life. We all need solid people around us, so don’t drift into the background alone, embrace your tribe. Life isn’t meant to be lived alone, so find your people, trust them and flourish!
